Tumescent Liposuction
Also known as Liposculpture, Tumescent Liposuction is the easier, safer, and gentler on the body than traditional liposuction. At Houston Smart Lipo Centers, this permanent procedure produces noticeable results, reducing fat and tightening skin for a slimmer, younger-looking body.
The Benefits of Tumescent Liposuction:
- Minimally invasive: A Tumescent Liposuction procedure usually only involves only one or two incisions on each body part. And, Tumescent Liposuction is a completely outpatient procedure that uses local anesthetic, not heavy sedation or general anesthesia.
- Less scarring: At Houston Smart Lipo Centers, we generally use only 2mm incisions (about the size of an angel hair pasta noodle). Entry points will naturally close within 48 hours, eventually fading into the surrounding skin. The best part? No stitches – ever.
- Less pain: Because the cannula, or straw used for sucking fat away, we use is smaller than those used in traditional liposuction, Tumescent Liposuction takes a little longer, but the movements are gentler on the body. Patients don't have to worry about aggressive movements or severe bruising that can be common with traditional liposuction. The procedure is so gentle that patients normally experience only mild discomfort, similar to the muscle ache after a heavy workout.
- Faster recovery: Because the procedure is minimally invasive and uses only local anesthesia, our patients are able to walk out of our offices after the procedure with their new, sculpted bodies. Patients are able to return to work within a day or two and participate in light to medium physical activities within 48 hours.
- Safer procedure: Most serious complications from liposuction are directly or indirectly associated with the general anesthesia. Because patients are fully awake during Tumescent Liposuction, there's very little risk of serious complications. The lines of communication between patient and doctor are fully open – so patients can express any unusual discomfort – making Tumescent Liposuction a safer procedure than conventional methods
- Permanent results: Tumescent Liposuction can achieve the same great results as traditional liposuction methods. Since adults don't grow more fat cells, the results are permanent. Even if you gain weight, the weight will be distributed to other parts of your body that haven't been treated.
Laser Liposuction
Laser Liposuction is the latest advance in tumescent liposuction. Laser Liposuction, or more appropriately called, laser assisted liposuction or laser lipolysis, is a form of liposuction that uses a laser to emulsify fat prior to the suctioning process. At Houston Smart Lipo Centers, we use the SmartLipo laser, which was the first FDA approved laser for laser lipolysis.
Though SmartLipo was the first laser FDA approved for this procedure, many other "fat melting" lasers are now on the market and many others are being developed. Other lasers include CoolLipo and LipoLite. All of these lasers have the ability to emulsify fat and also have a skin tightening effect. The skin tightening happens because the laser energy breaks collagen bonds in the dermis stimulating new collagen to form. This process is call neocollagenesis.
No certain brand of lipolysis laser at this point has been proven to be superior to any other. It is actually the skill of the surgeon in proper tumescent liposuction technique that is the best predictor of outcome. Power Assisted Liposuction
Power Assisted Liposuction is a specialized form of liposuction that uses a vibrating cannula, or straw, to break up and remove fat cells. At Houston Smart Lipo Centers, Power Assisted Liposuction, or PAL, is used on most liposuction procedures to help suction out fatty deposits using less force than manual liposuction.
The Benefits of Power Assisted Liposuction:
- Gentler on the body: Power Assisted Liposuction is used to gently extract the fat from the body during a Tumescent Liposuction procedure. Traditionally, cannulas had to be manually forced through the fatty deposits in the body in order to remove them. With Power Assisted Liposuction at Houston Smart Lipo Centers, the doctors use only very small cannulas. Using these small cannulas with gentle and precise strokes removes unwanted fat with less damage to surrounding tissues.
- Helps remove difficult fat: Because it can be very difficult to move the cannula back and forth through certain types of fatty tissue, the vibrating tip in Power Assisted Liposuction helps to penetrate the fat in difficult areas. This means that doctors and can treat even dense fibrous fat, resulting in more fat removal in some patients.
