Arm Liposuction

Summertime. Weddings. And even those not-so-special occasions, like wearing tank tops on the weekends: Anytime is a good time for arm liposuction.

As we age, the skin on our arms naturally loses elasticity. When you combine this with fat accumulation under the arm, you get that unsightly, flapping underarm jiggle. Some women, even very young women, are genetically predisposed to flabby, hanging arms. While you can't change your genes, you can change your arms. With Tumescent Liposuction, you can feel confident in sleeveless shirts with younger, toned arms and be beach-ready in a few weeks.

The Liposculpture procedure at Houston Smart Lipo Centers is easier and safer than traditional liposuction.  First, a local anesthetic is used to numb the arms.  Then, a laser is used to gently melt the fat directly under the skin and to encourage skin-tightening.  One or two small incisions are then placed in the upper arm to remove fat from the back of the arm and elbow.  The cannula used to remove the fat is only about 3mm wide, allowing the fat to be removed more slowly and gently than with traditional liposuction. This means less pain, less bruising, and a rapid recovery time for patients.

  • Tumescent Liposuction is a permanent, lasting procedure, leaving you with smaller, and more toned appearing arms.
  • Usually lasting only an hour, our arm Liposculpture procedure is designed to reduce fat and tighten skin.
  • Tumescent Liposuction is performed with only local anesthetic, and most patients are back at work in one or two days.

Why choose arm liposuction?

Most women with flabby, "bat wing" arms will see improvements in their arms and shoulders. Liposculpture of the arms can greatly reduce the fatty deposits on the upper arm, and near the armpits, giving a more youthful, contoured appearance. There aren't any unsightly scars to worry about. And now, with the Tumescent Liposuction procedure at Houston Smart Lipo Centers, recovery times are quick, and there is less post-op bruising and pain.

What is the procedure like?

Liposculpture is performed in our offices under local anesthesia - all patients remain awake and alert during the entire procedure.  First, the skin is numbed and one or two small incisions are placed on the upper arm.  Using gentle suction, excess fat is removed with a vibrating cannula, or straw-like instrument.  The cannula itself is 3mm - about the size of a cooked spaghetti noodle - and leaves no unsightly scars.  The procedure lasts for about an hour, and patients walk out of the office with their new, sculpted arms.

Am I a good candidate for arm liposuction?

Patients in general good health with excess fat on the back of the arms can benefit from Liposculpture.  Patients with wrinkly or loose skin will see an improvement in skin elasticity, restoring a more youthful appearance to the skin. If you have had a gastric bypass or recently lost more than 100 pounds, please call our offices to schedule a consultation to discuss your options.

Will I have any scars or sagging skin?

Tumescent Liposuction at Houston Smart Lipo Centers uses a very small tube (cannula) to remove fat and will not leave any unsightly scars. The puncture sites in the arm will naturally close within a day or two, fading into the surrounding skin.

When combined with Smart Lipo, Liposculpture is designed to promote skin-tightening and restore collagen. Unless your skin is already very thin, wrinkled, or lax due to aging or dramatic weight loss, you will usually see an improvement in skin tone and firmness.

What are the post-op procedures?

Patients will experience only mild discomfort after the procedure.  You will be able to use your arms, enjoy physical activities as your body allows, and return to work in a day or two.  Some patients may experience mild bruising.  A compression garment similar to a sports bra with quarter-length sleeves and absorbent pads should be worn for 3 days and nights, and then at least 8 hours a day for 2 weeks.

Some patients may experience swelling after the procedure.  It is normal for the arms to heal at different rates. Generally, good results may take up to two months to see; the arms will continue to heal, revealing optimal results after six months. While it does take a while for the swelling to go down, there is minimal to no pain involved.

With Tumescent Liposuction of the arms, there are no stitches and the tiny puncture wounds will naturally close within two days - the most discomfort patients experience is mild soreness, similar to the muscle ache that occurs after strenuous exercise.  Patients who use their arms regularly at work, such as hairdressers, are encouraged to take 2 or 3 days off of work after the procedure.
